It is very easy to go wrong with make-up-don't we know that! But it's even easier to fix it (thank goodness!). I've learnt some really neat tricks to get it right while on my job. I'll share some secrets with you here.

1 Wrong foundation colour
Why: Wearing foundation that's too dark or light will accentuate lines, wrinkles, and other flaws.

Fix it: To find your shade, sample 3 shades of foundation in natural light. Apply a small amount on your cheekbones and jaw line. Choose the one that blends perfectly with your natural skin tone.

2 Cakey foundation
Why: It can make your face look unnatural and mask-like, especially if you are wearing the wrong shade.

Fix it: Choose a light liquid foundation that suits your skin type. Apply it with a makeup sponge-after applying moisturiser on the face-for an even and flawless texture.

3 Hiding behind heavy foundation
Why: Suffocating your skin with a heavy cover-up will only draw attention to the pimples, scars or dark circles you're trying to hide.

Fix it: Use a light, creamy concealer that will give good coverage. It can be applied before, or after the foundation. If you want to conceal a small pimple, apply it before the foundation. But to hide dark circles apply it after. For fine lines: mix in a little moisturiser with your foundation. It will prevent the formula from settling into the lines. For blemishes: mineral makeup can give great coverage for pockmarks and acne.

4 eyeliner mishaps
Why: A strong, thick line all the way around your eye can make your eyes look smaller and closer together.

Fix it: A softer line can make your eyes look bigger. Start lining your top and bottom lids at the inner edge of the iris and extend the liner to the outer corner of your eye. Gently smudge the line towards the inner corner of your eye to create a softer look.

5 Clumpy mascara
Why: No need to tell you why!

Fix it: Start by curling your eyelashes. Use tissue to remove excess mascara from the applicator brush before starting. Apply evenly from the inner base to the tips, wiggling the wand from side to side. Apply a second coat only on eyelash tips.

6 in-your-face blush
Why: Blush is supposed to look flushed not forced.

Fix it:  Pick a pink/peach colour with soft shimmer. Smile, tap blush on apple cheeks and you are done! It's all about positioning it right. If you have applied too much, tone down with a light dusting of translucent powder.

7 painting chapped lips
Why:
It will aggravate the condition.

Fix it: Instead, use a lip balm/petroleum jelly to keep your lips moist. If you still want to use lipstick, first apply a lip balm/primer to moisturise the lips. Gentle exfoliation, once or twice a week, with a wet washcloth can help keep your pout soft.

8 over-defined lips
Why: Over-defining the lips does not make them look fuller.

Fix it: Look for a lip pencil that mimics your lip colour. Apply it on the lip line and not a millimetre more; add shine. Shine bounces light and gives the illusion of a fuller pout.
